About Us

Our Structure

From its inception, Mid-West Family Springfield was founded as a truly local company that serves our local community. As a group of companies, Mid-West Family has local operations in 7 different media markets: Madison, La Crosse, and Eau Claire in Wisconsin, Rockford, Illinois, southwest Michigan, and South Bend, Indiana.

In contrast to much bigger media companies, Mid-West Family does not consist of one large corporation, but separate corporations in each market. Plus, each Mid-West Family market is owned by employee shareholders who truly have a stake in their investment.

This unique model allows Mid-West Family to super-serve each of our communities with a truly “hyper-local” approach. From the on-air talent, to the marketing and support teams, Mid-West Family employs “live and local” talent in each market. People who know, live in, and love the communities we serve.

Our Local History

Mid-West Family began their legacy in the Ozarks with the launch of “Oldies 105.1” (KOSP-FM) in 1992. Even though the “Oldies” format was retired years ago, locals will still occasionally spot window decals featuring the “Big Cat” logo from KOSP’s heyday. In 2012, KOSP moved to 92.9 FM on the radio dial and is home to “92.9 The Beat.”

In 1997, Mid-West Family launched our 2nd FM signal, KKLH, now known as classic rock station “104.7 The Cave.” Over nearly thirty years, the Cave has grown to become one of the top radio brands in southwest Missouri. With long-time personalities Mike “the Intern” Holmes, Jay Stevens, and Joe Westen, the Cave is one of the few stations left to regularly spin vinyl live on the air. For the past 9 years, 104.7 The Cave has also been home the Kansas City Chiefs, bringing fans the incredible voice of Missouri Hall of Fame broadcaster Mitch Holthus.

Mid-West Family’s third radio station, KOMG, hit the airwaves in 1999. While Mid-West Family’s first foray into country radio was the now retired “Coyote Country”, KOMG is now home to “105.1 The Bull”. KOMG’s morning host Summer Stevens is one of the most recognizable voices in the Ozarks, and the Bull also airs every radio broadcast of the St. Louis Cardinals.

Finally, in 2002, Mid-West Family made one of their most ambitious moves in the market launching KQRA “Springfield’s Rock Station Q102.” Almost since the moment it hit the air, Q102 rocketed to the top of the Nielsen ratings and remains as one of the top stations in the market. In 2004, Q102 landed the Lex and Terry Morning Show and they have entertained local rockers every morning since then. Despite having one of the smaller radio signals in the market, Q102 has consistently performed at a very high level, and in 2025 Q102 was nominated Radio Station of the Year by the Missouri Broadcasters Association.

Where We Are Today

In an era where many media companies are deserting local markets, Mid-West Family Springfield has thrived. Mid-West Family operates with over 35 local employees in our state-of-the-art facility at 2453 East Elm in Springfield. We love to have visitors tour our stations and truly see the difference when a local company is committed to our local community. Our halls at Mid-West Family are lined with over 40 autographed guitars, most of which were signed right here in the Ozarks by some of the most famous names in music. At Mid-West Family, we know that listeners can get their music and entertainment from a variety of sources. That’s why we know it is what happens between the songs that really matters. Keeping our listeners up to date on local happenings and helping our advertisers stand out and succeed are just some of the ways we demonstrate every day that at Mid-West Family we aren’t just local…we are “hyper-local!”
